Madison Armstrong (she/her) is a marine biologist and post-doctoral researcher at the Lotterhos Lab, Northeastern University Marine Science Center. Broadly interested in adaptation to marine environments and genomic variation associated with environmental change, her current work focuses on evaluating genomic forecasting and machine learning algorithms to investigate differential success and the potential for adaptation in oysters across various environmental conditions. Her doctoral research at UC Davis examined how urban stressors — pollution, population isolation, developmental disruption — alter the genomes of marine invertebrates, using the Pacific Purple sea urchin as a study system.

She is also deeply passionate about mentorship and science outreach. As a first-generation scientist who had to advocate for herself along the way, she wants to help students figure out their career goals and achieve them with minimal hardship. She has been actively involved in the Evolution and Ecology Graduate School Preview Program at UC Davis, working to increase access and transparency to graduate programs and build diversity within these fields.
